It's a fun topic to explore. So many memories I have of media from the 70's that differs from what it's supposed to be. However, I doubt the whole separate timeline aspect. I think it's more likely that it is us mis-remembering and passing memories along incorrectly. For instance, most people's memory of the ending of Empire Strikes Back was Darth Vader saying, "Luke, I am your father." when in this new timeline he says, "No, I am your father." I remember as kids when we all saw that movie, being kids we would repeat the lines to each other, "Luke, I am your father." So we probably all remember it that way.
Maybe we are all connected somehow. And our memories intermix.
It's seems like animals & bugs have a connection to each other. Like how do monarch butterflies know the migration routes when they don't live long enough to make the journey. And flick of birds and schools of fish act in unison (murrmering?)
And why in dreams do we sometimes see ourselves from another's perspective?
And why do we get strong feelings of creepyness, and foreboding (gut instinct) from some people or situations?

I don't know. It's early and I'm rambling. :)
I always wonder if that dream 3rd person view is from watching tv or predates it
