Where do they pull these types of numbers from? Even our friendly publishers' polls? Anyway, 2020 was a great year for my family and I. We took this opportunity to save a lot more. Sure groceries went up a little, but i made up for it by gardening last spring. Slaughtering extra beef, harvesting extra firewood.
Yeah I got myself out of debt this year and buying the house I've been living in. Next year I will do a garden. But we've got at least two months of food stored if not more.
When you plant a garden, one trick I've found that works really well is to go to the Dollar Store and get some colorful rubber or plastic snakes. The more colorful, the better.
Birds LOVE going after tomatoes, peppers, etc... . The moment tomatoes begin to turn orange, the birds will go after them. People try putting out windmills, owl statues, flashy things, scarecrows, etc... but birds quickly figure them out. if they either don't move, or keep doing the same thing repeatedly, then birds will learn to ignore it as a non-threat.
Put colorful plastic snakes in and around the garden, but every 2-days go re-arrange those snakes. Birds aren't stupid. If a snake doesn't move for a few days, then it's a dead snake = no threat. However, if your snakes are constantly moving to new locations, then your garden is "infested with snakes" = Serious Threat. Also, colorful reptiles are deadly. That's nature's warning sign. Birds will avoid your garden.
that's a good idea. i prefer to wrap my hoophouse in plastic mesh net. I have to keep squirrels off too the little buggers
That's a good trick, we have a lot of little song birds on our block they keep the bugs down, but I don't want them getting in my tomatoes.
My parents and grandparents had huge gardens, and it wasn't until I was in highschool that we actually bought potatoes it was so weird for me lol. I lived in an apartment for over 20 years, it was nice near a pond and a walking path we even had a yard, just no garden. Now I have a house with a yard we're working on making the house our own we've been renting for four years very nice landlady wants me to have the house so here we go lol.
