This is one of those books that I read in high school and it stuck with me throughout my life. Another one is A Canticle for a Leibowitz, has anyone read that?

I had not heard of this one before - I really like dystopian/post apocalyptic novels. I am going to find it, it looks good.

The first one I read in middle school was called "Malevil", set in a French castle after a nuclear war.
