I’m in NC and my tech company announced yesterday we have until the 29th. Would getting a lawyer help with this?

Yes, it will. I highly recommend getting a lawyer and also go to America's Frontline Doctors and take literally 1 minute to fill out a form to be notified of any class action suits in NC. I haven't been notified yet, but that's because I'm under the government, maybe there is one for private corporations.
