Here is some date-fagging: On January 6th 1066 Harald was crowned king on the same day that Edward the confessor died, on the basis that he had attended Edward's deathbed. The man who was promised the throne, fifteen years earlier, was conveniently labelled a dirty tanner and a bastard. On October 14th, William won the battle of Hastings. Along with Harald, all of England's nobles lay dead on the battlefield. Norman knights were installed all over England. The Normans brought architecture that still stands today, and changed the language, so that French words like Justice, Liberty and others are now common use English words.
