Can someone please explain what Remdesivir is and why I thought this was a good thing to take for a time?

I thought I remembered Trump saying he took the Remdesivir back when he got sick before he got the vaccine so I had always assumed that was similar to other therapeutics. Thanks in advance for your help!

I believe Remdesivir stresses the kidneys and causes fluid build up around the lungs which kills people who are intubated on a ventilator.
