My brother and two closest friends (i was best man at both of their weddings) are thinking about caving. Two work at Boeing, one at another major global corp. All three are quickly reacting that they’re going to have to pick their poison. I understand as I faced the same until today.. I accepted a position with a small business making the same as I was at My prior employer.
So outside of encouraging them to hold out and look for jobs it’s scares me that there are truly way more hold outs abandoning ship than expected.
Anyone else hearing the same from friends/family as more bit corp is jumping on board for this BS tyranny. Any advice? At the end of the day I’ll respect all three for doing what they have to do take care of their families.. but I’m devastated how quickly they are assuming they’re just going to have to go ahead and get the jabs.
Yep, pretty much everyone I know. I beat myself up on the daily for a while thinking I could have helped more, but I did a lot to help. Got them alternative job recommendations, offered to pay for their relocation to another state, and most importantly I told them for years something like this was coming - the writing was on the wall for a looooong time. They rejected it all.
Ultimately they made no preparation whatsoever and were caught with their pants down. I'm not even talking going into full preper mode. Just wiping your debt and getting 6 months of living expenses in an emergency fund would have done wonders. I still feel bad, but you can't care about someone more than they care about themselves.
I agree on multiple points you made. I just feel like I’m losing allies in more ways than one.
And they were definitely caught pants down… all three were so sure their employer wouldn’t require it.
Yes its extremely sad. Crazy how the one at Boeing didn't see it coming though. It's a defense contractor ffs, any business dependent on the government is the first to go.
I was thinking that too... I was expecting Boeing to be first in line to require it.
Yeah, I was in this situation a couple of weeks ago and initially thought about caving when the company mandate came. I calmed down and filed a religious exemption recently and am waiting for their decision, but I'm fine with getting put on leave and letting them fire me (or me finding a job with no mandate).
It's scary for sure though. I guess my only advice to them is to calm down and not get jabbed immediately. They should list out all the options Boeing and that other company provided and the options that are available to them (e.g., paths they can form themselves)... Boeing's deadline is Dec. 8 so those at Boeing have until around Nov. 8 to decide (e.g., first shot Nov. 8, second shot two weeks later, and then two weeks to be considered "fully vaccinated" seems to be the terms at some places). Their skillset is probably pretty specialized and requires large teams, but they really should think if they have options at smaller companies. Probably not much help but their first step is to calm down.
