I think it's just an icon to represent the storm. I agree with the spirit of what you are saying, I just think it's just 1 step too far in this particular instance. The statue of liberty signifies things here too, but we all know what it's origin is. I won't be marking things up with rainbows, but I also refuse to allow God's logo of mercy to be fully claimed by those whom He'll show no mercy upon. I don't think her signaling would be as corny as this lightning bolt, but I could be wrong.
I have refused to give up on the word "gay." I like to say it continues to mean "lighthearted"...and not its opposite. (Nothing more sordid than the "gay" world.)
