The uninjured foot supports the full body weight. When stepping on the injured foot with the crutch placed under the opposite arm, the crutch takes part of the body weight.
Healthy foot = full body weight.
Injured foot + crutch = full body weight.
The only time I've ever needed crutches, I found the crutch on the injured side easier and more intuitive.
That view is why people drew that conclusion.
Joementia did same thing when he got out of an SUV before becoming Resident. All the weight was on booted foot. There is a pic of this too.
