That said, apparently the correct way to use crutches is under the uninjured side... which seems absurd because the point, I thought, is to keep the weight off the foot.
The uninjured foot supports the full body weight. When stepping on the injured foot with the crutch placed under the opposite arm, the crutch takes part of the body weight.

I remember when the original boot wearer - No-Name, got caught wearing it on different legs. That took a little bit of mental gymnastics to explain.
When he was questioned on it he stuttered and said he was giving his foot a rest and was evening it out LoL

It's how you swing your arms when you walk, opposite the leg. Better balance.
