What did he have that led to the sepsis I wonder? I'm no doctor or nurse (not that that's a be all end all of knowledge because we now see how that works) but doesn't sepsis arise from an original infection? My mom had sepsis. Some years ago she fell and broke most of her ribs on one side which led to an emergency spleen removal and then the next 5 months in 3 hospitals where I was pressured to sign a DNR because my not signing a DNR on her behalf was "cruel" and I should just "let her go". She was on a ventilator no less than 5 times but she recovered and for the next 5 years she was living her best life until the stroke ultimately took her home. But she didn't just wake up with sepsis one day out of the blue

My Bf got sepsis when he had a colonoscopy. Had it in the morning and by lunch he had a fever of 104. So yeah it can hit quick.
Oh wow, I'd have been PISSED at the colonoscopy tech.
