If you knew deadly snakes slithered around your family home and you could not immediately get rid of them without killing most of your family, you'd probably wait it out as long as possible until the snakes went into hibernation or died naturally if that likely meant greatest likelihood of preserving your family. I don't like the wait either. But I understand I'd probably make the same decisions of dragging the situation out.
