This week my daughter caught a cold and possibly croup, and I also caught the cold she had. My wife took her to urgent care because she was concerned she had croup and they refused to diagnose anything without covid testing. On top of that, the discharge paperwork said the reason for her visit was because of possible exposure to covid, which it was not. It said nothing about our concerns about croup, and the doctor didn’t seem to care either. To top it off, the dr told us to stop giving her the Robitusin (which was helping) and refused to diagnose her any further, despite clearly having issues.
Fast forward a few days and here I am at urgent care to get a Dr note to return to work after calling out sick because I caught her cold. This Dr also refused to really do anything because I didn’t want a covid test. All I wanted was a note to excuse me for a few days from work. The note they gave me is one sentence and literally says “so and so born on this date was seen in our office today” … thats it. Dr said “I’m not putting myself on the line like that. If it isn’t covid it isn’t valid to put medical professionals anymore. WTF are we supposed to do? Where can we go for actual help when we need it?
You can try going to America's Frontline Doctors website. Sign up for a $90 telecon with a doctor. They can prescribe treatments over the phone and use a mail only pharmacy. You must pay for the service. Duke it out with your insurance. If you can do this without needing x-rays, blood tests (which you can get by going on-line to Health One Labs https://www.healthonelabs.com/) or physical exams, colds and croups should be doable.
