Think about this, companies end up saving billions when people are fired in mass or quit on their own. Payroll/retirement/medical all get greatly reduced, sure there may be some short term payouts but long term reduction in payroll can save a company millions. The people who get truly screwed are the employees that stick around to take on the added workload. This happens all the time, companies save money by cutting staff/cut corners and give an ultimatum to the fools who stick around - take on more work or you’re gone too - with the threat of offshoring the work to a foreign country.
