Sonny Bono was never important enough to whack for any reason. He was a middling song writer and singer with modest talents. Cher and Sonny were probably in a symbiotic relationship where they leaned on each other to make a sorta decent duo. Once Sonny died, however, somehow Cher used her own modest "talents" to become famous for being famous and became (IMHO) a B list actress and a C-list singer. Purely my opinion, but there you are.
I know, not as vaunted a position as Congress critters would like to think. And a freshman Congressman is about as low on the totem pole as one can imagine. It takes seniority to become powerful and have any real impact.
