Does anybody know why he pointed the gun at a crew member and fired it? Were they filming at the time or was he just fooling around?

Because it wasn't a series of accidents. It was a planned 187 and he was just doing as he was directed. He aimed at her heart close range and killed her.

Good question. I see no reason why the gun should have been aimed & fired towards the crew. My feelings would have been different if it happened during a scene.
