Nice red dot sight, but I'd take off those superfluous pop-up iron sights... if it were me. Otherwise, good onya, LT. Now go do some good!
Always have back-ups for everything.
And preferably back ups for back ups, whenever possible!
Same, though I ditched those plastic ones in my builds as there are much nicer metal pop-ups these days.
Back up itons are common for electronic sighted duty weapons. She served and would have an instant solution to emp on her rifle.
Makes sense, thanks. Personally (IMHO) I stay away from any kind of sights that require batteries. It's bound to fail you when you can least afford it. The little coin batteries most red dots run on will just quietly die as they sit there over time. I much prefer iron sights or a good scope zeroed in. It may sound naive, but a good old 4x20 scope with good light gathering capability is my go-to choice, except for any long-range rifles (.308 etc.). Those require some more sophisticated scopes.
I have the same red dot. Battery lasts about 2 years with my rare use and I keep 3 spares in the stock. Red dots are much faster for target acquisition because it is a larger sight picture. I also use the flip zoom made for that dot that works with the irons as well. It's a fast way to add about 3x and flips out of the way on a spring release and works for both sets of sights. You can also flip the irons up to co-witness if that's your thing. It reduces the sight picture but you have a glowing red dot on your irons for more contrast at target.
I've never been able to calibrate a red dot with iron sights, for some reason. But glad it works for you.
I should add that I have another 4x a cog like you prefer that uses nuclear tritium instead of a battery. It's bulky, but I like it. I don't know of any smaller red dots with tritium power though.
Reddot gets damaged you would be thankful for the sighted in pop ups fren
See my later comments... I much prefer simple over complicated.... iron sights or a telescopic sight over red dots. In my experience, red dots tend to run out of battery power as they sit in a safe over several months. Had one on a scout rifle a couple of years ago and the battery died only 4 months after installing it. Sold all my red dots at a gun show and have since stuck purely with iron / telescopic sights.
The thing about a red dot, that I think you're missing, is you don't have to be lined up square with the rifle like a scope.
Just put the dot on the target and fire away. The optics of a good one will keep the dot on target as you move your head around while keeping the rifle pointed at the same spot. If it doesn't, it's trash. Try that with a 1-4x20 scope.
However, there are no cross hairs and batteries die, so you gotta have some backup iron sights and batteries. There's no way around that fact. My solution is pop rear sight, A2 front sight, and a Magpul STR stock with some free fresh CR2 on the left side and CR123 on the right side.
And I don't keep it an a safe. What the fuck good would it do in there? Hell nah! It's beside my bed with 5 30 rounds mags of green tips.
Oh I keep the necessary tools by the bed too, the safe is for overflow tools, wink wink.
Thanks for your opinions on red dots... maybe I will revisit the subject.
Ic what your saying I prefer a scope with a reddot old eyes here
Sights with batteries is a no-no. I prefer my iron sights. 45 degree especially.
The 1900's called. They want your lever action dirty-turdy, grand-pa.
Batteries tech and optics have come a long way in the last 5 years.
Never remove your BUIs. I've had red dots fail before. It happens.
