1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. 3 Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt. 4 We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.

Study Note:

123:1ff The psalmist lifted his eyes to God, waiting and watching for God to send his mercy. The more he waited, the more he cried out to God because he knew that the evil and proud offered no help--they had only contempt for God.

In reading the Wins Of The Day and Extra Wins, stay cautious about arrogance. For some reason God keeps driving home the message of humility. A way to do this is through thankfulness. Be thankful for all that God provides, adding to the list each time you think of something, just like you do for your grocery list.

Gracious Father, thank you for all the provisions. Thank you for your care and protection of loved ones. Thank you for the ability to think for ourselves and to care for others. Thank you for the lessons of love you taught and teach us daily. Help us keep you in our focus as we take it step at a time today. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
