I heard a lot of "People need food and a place to live" arguments these past few months.
One of the people that presented this argument was me. But, I'm never getting the jab no matter what. I'm only presenting the facts, challenges that real people face every day.
The risk of fighting back is losing your job (i.e. means to feed yourself and family). There's no denying that. And there's a risk that your expertise's field is biased with companies that listen to or are run by [DS] people...that's also a high risk. People COULD actually go hungry as a result of this resistance.
Once you get to a certain point in life, it's impossible to simply discard the skillset you've used pretty much all your life and re-learn new ones. Those that imply you can easily do so are on the same boat as Rahm Emanuel saying "all those coal miners we fire can just become coders!"
There has to be a way we can both fight back effectively, don't take the shot, be honest, firm, and successful.
