"The Bible" doesn't say anything. The authors that make up the books of the Bible do. Some of them I trust more than others. As for Constantine, the despot who compiled the Bible and gave the world the Dark Ages, I don't trust much.
Nor do I trust Paul. What he says about Christ and salvation I simply don't buy. As I said, twice now, Paul's take on Christianity smacks of repackaged idolatry. Now you worship a man instead of an idol, but since you call that man God, you think it's ok.
Well, I don't think Jesus thought that was ok. This is the man that said "Come, follow me." Not "Come, worship me." This is the man who asked why Peter doubted after walking on water, not "guess it was just my will that you sink." This is the man that said "Is it not written in your law, 'I have said, ye are Gods. Children of the Most High.'" As well as "According to YOUR faith be it done unto you" and "Be ye therefore perfect, even as thy Father in Heaven is perfect."
Jesus saved mankind from the Fall of Adam and Eve. This I believe. But the fall of Adam and Even was not literal, it was figurative/spiritual, and it happens the moment we believe the lie that Paul peddled--that we're filthy and unworthy to stand in the presence of God.
Jesus came and said "Bullshit. You ARE Gods. Now act like it."
THAT is salvation.
That's literally what caused Lucifer to fall from heaven, and it's the same sales pitch he made to Eve. They each wanted to be like God. You're saying salvation is to take Satan's offer.
I take it from the non-reply and single downvote that you are. I appreciate the input friend, but were it not for Milton's "Paradise Lost" Joseph Smith would never have taught such things about premortal life. He was smart, but unoriginal.
That's...quite a leap. Never realized converting was so easy. I agree he wasn't original, as clearly there are others who believe they can know God without a Bible, but I disagree that he was smart. Paul, inspired by God's Holy Spirit, wrote "The wisdom of man is foolishness to God".
Converting?
As for my comment that Joseph Smith is smart, I don't think he was genuine. I think he was a conman. Conmen are usually pretty smart.
As for Paul, I don't disagree that he has some poetic moments, but "The Wisdom of man is foolishness to God" is hardly original and doesn't really prove anything about the man. Plenty of verses like that in the Old Testament.
"All mankind is stupid, devoid of knowledge; Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his molten images are deceitful, and there is no breath in them." -Jeremiah 51:17
However, to Joseph Smith's credit, there are some phenomenal verses in the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. Again, mostly ripped off, but beautiful and poetic, if not faith inspiring, nonetheless.
I'm sorry you feel that way. You read like a Mormon though. Are you Mormon?
