Reading the description of XClear, it seems to be powdered Xylitol, which is inimical to bacterial growth. As many people have mentioned here that they have a sensitivity or overreaction to the drying quality, it made me wonder if powdered honey, or a honey spray, could be used instead. Honey also does not support bacteria.
