I think it has more to do with anger. Angry people are afraid. Once you forgive your parents for passing on anger to you and not being of perfect Christian love God takes away ur anger once you forgive and realize those that hurt you couldnt help themselves because they had a spirit of anger which is evil flowing through them. The Bible says we deal with "principalities in wicked and high places" if someone was evil to you they could not help themselves but once you forgive the anger is taken out by God and you can be free from the devil and you will do Gods will.
