Hospitals have been corrupt for decades. In the UK (and probably elsewhere) they are allowed to buy items ONLY from an "approved supplier". So my wife, who worked in a hospital, ordered a kettle for the nurses' rest room. (In the UK that doesn't mean "toilet".) It arrived from the approved supplier with a 99.99 price tag. Hidden below that was a price label from a high-street store for 9.99. That's a nice profit margin for somebody.
