I only watched the Netflix Waco movie and didn’t know much about it. I remember thinking they didn’t really paint ATF as good guys but at the same time the davidians were basically just having sex with the one guy. Not really that extreme for a cult I suppose. Maybe they also implied Koresh was having sex with kids? I forget. What’s the real deal?
Your best bet is books. The media spins it and Youtube scrubbed all the non "state-sponsored" documentaries. The real deal is that the ATF and FBI endlessly psychologically tortured the compound weeks after opening fire on them, then burned those people alive because they were practicing their second amendment rights. This is all on the Clintons and Janet Reno. Koresh was weird, but the sex with kids thing was a media spin. He did practice polygamy with all of the wives. Most of those children were actually his. They filled the place with CS gas then threw flash bangs in starting the fires. Don't ever follow the narrative that they poured accelerant on themselves because that's total bullshit. They just wanted to be left alone. If they really wanted Koresh, they could have arrested him the dozens of times he went for long jogging sessions right past them. They were making a statement. One of the earlier pushes for gun control. Some of the people involved still hold office in these agencies. The fuckstick they tried to ram through for Bidens ATF director was calling the ground shots at Waco. It's all connected.
I might need to rewatch the Waco movie but I think they did a fair job. I don’t remember who spilled the accelerant but for sure I saw that and remember that’s fucked up the ATF psychologically tortured these people. I don’t remember what spin they put on the movie.
Did it happen the same time as Ruby Ridge? IIRC, they also touched on that in the movie and how the ATF shot an unarmed kid
It was a few years later, but there are huge comparisons with the overreach the ATF/FBI was using. There were people protesting Waco that were really bringing to light what they did to Randy Weaver and his family. Namely murder. Ruby Ridge was just flat out heartbreaking. They were both examples of a militarized police force targeting 2A supportive American citizens that wanted to be left alone, which is a huge huge violation.
