If taken in a broad definition, maybe not. But the Founders were of various denominations of Christianity or Deism, so an argument could be sustained that the First Amendment was meant to address the religions of that time -- Quakers, Baptists, Catholics, -- which were largely Christian doctrines. This has been an ongoing controversy since the founding.
All the First Amendment says about religion is that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.."
I'm not convinced that the Founders could have foreseen a time when a foreign religion could take hold in this country, a religion that expressly goes against the tenets of our Constitution in terms of individual liberties, free speech, free association, and a free press as laid out in the First Amendment.
The Constitution is not an elaborate suicide note, and we Americans should not allow any religion in this country that is so hostile to the Constitution itself.
You don't get to pick and choose which parts you like and agree with and those you don't. This is the same argument anti-gun faggots make with regards to the Second. It was either written as it was for all eternity or it's completely outdated. It is not one or the other nor do some Amendments have more relevance than others.
I completely reject your argument and talking point. We are NOT a Christian nation we are a FREE nation of many faiths. If we were meant to be a Christian Nation, the Law would be the New Testament. There's a reason it is not.
I agree with you IN PRINCIPLE. But I'll state it again, the Constitution is not a suicide pact. People who use our Constitution to ATTACK our Constitution should be dealt with harshly. And Islam is directly opposed to the very basic tenets of our Constitution.
