I think the placebo hypothesis is a strong one. When MLB was telling their players to get jabbed, they were very insistent that they all do so with the team medical staff and not just waltz into any old pharmacy to do it.

Pharmacy = ClotShot Team Nurse = saline

Yes, they're all done through the league so they know exactly who is and who is not vaccinated.

It's entirely possible that deals were cut and the athletes were spared so as not to alarm the public.

It would be a lot trickier to pull that off at the collegiate level however.
