If you connect the post-birth infant to the pre-birth fetus in a medical sense, then you have to explicitly make the case for post-birth abortion, lest you lose the justification for late-term abortion; a thing which the vast, vast majority of people find to be repugnant.
This could be one of those things they try to do for their own evil purposes, which ends up working to achieve the opposite outcome.
