He didn't actually mean "religion," you can even catch him recognize he misspoke, but more or less "ideology" or "drive."

We have to have the ambition to be great in God's eyes.

That does mean some "religions" may be incompatible with what America must become, to be great. Where that is the case, we have no need for their existence.
