A couple things here don't add up for me. I originally stumbled across this from Robinhood. Then had to find the article to get a link.
- 75 yr old men dont often do over 100.
- 75 yr old men are less likely to do a hit and run.
- Wifes will nag if you speed in a car while their with you.
So this article is saying an senior hit a minivan at 68-75 mph on the interstate and fled doing speeds over 100 where they then hit a pickup truck on an off ramp?
To me this sounds like the ground game version of airplane crashes being the preferred assassination method of the deepstate.
For the record, a car is 100% hackable and this has been proven since roughly 2014. Relevant link: https://www.wired.com/2016/08/jeep-hackers-return-high-speed-steering-acceleration-hacks/
In roughly 2014, Road and Track or Car and Driver did the original report on the hacking and other places have picked up the story thereafter.
Things that have led to this:
-
Throttle by wire. The theottle body is controlled by the engine module instead of an physical cable between the gas pedal and throttle body. This has been around since the early 2000s as far as i know.
-
Steering by wire. Steering is controlled by an electric motor making hydraulic pressure and feeding the electric steering rack. There is no steering shaft between the wheel and steering system.
-
Electronic controlled braking. Since the commonplace of ABS, the ABS module can create brake fluid pressure and regulate pressure to each wheel. Not so bad until the combination with a radar, allowing a car to brake on its own under a guise of "Collision avoidence"
-
CAN lines, every module in most of todays cars talk to each other via CAN lines.
-
Telematics. Many cars can be connected to via satalite or cellular connections. Ford gives drivers the option of logging into a website to see what faults their car has and to schedule service at a dealer. How would their website know what faults a car is showing with just a vin ubless there has been some communication with the car in question.
Edit: adding number 6. 6. Firewalls were introduced around 2017. If ypu look into a tuner for a 2017 plus car, they require unlocking to put in a tune. This was due to a firewall added to ECMs to prevent hacking. I.E. ensure only those in the deepstate could do a hack.
I know I am often in awe of what our IT experts and autists are able to figure out, im happy to once though have a subject matter i can help provide relevent indepth information on. I work in the diesel field for a living and saw many of these technologies come on those vehicles first before happening to common gas cars.
What if Paul Walkers was as well?
you're on the right track. i think some of these questions will be answered if you look into the death of Michael Hastings
What was the motive to kill walker? Everything I saw indicated he lost control of the car due an arduous dip in the road and high rate of speed, immediately following a turn.
It sounds like the driver had an issue, foot on pedal after engaging autopilot. Hands not on steering wheel.
I drive a Tesla dual motor M3 sport. They are fast. The acceleration is very even, meaning passengers can't always tell how fast I am going. I will hit 100 to 120 on freeway ramps. You don't get acceleration noise, no jerking as a new gear comes into play.
You make a very valid point I didnt account for, the lack of feedback from an electric car.
One thing that did strike me as odd, the article says the Tesla registered 95% on throttle percentage. This could be as the potentiometer will only read up to 95% even if the throttle is fully depressed. Or it could be that the driver really did not step all the way down on the pedal. This would probably never be verifiable because nobody short of a Tesla dealer can read data like that where as on a gas car you could due to OBDII regulations.
It is a very strange detail. I do think from my autopilot driving that he was out or out of it. Weight of foot on pedal, but foot muscles not engaged to press it down all the way.
Tesla M3 top out 145ish to 170ish. Single, dual or dual with sports features.
The 1st Tesla autonomous driving death:
"Jun 30, 2016 — A Navy SEAL became the first victim of a self-driving car. ... in the fabled SEAL Team Six, the elite unit that killed Osama bin Laden."
Given enough resources anything can be hacked; even stuff "airgapped". (see: Stuxnet)
Vehicles these days are essentially computers. The ECM can literaly control all aspects of a vehicle (even steering! ie: auto parking)
Now, most cars these days come pre installed with satellite and mobile radios. It would be naive to think that a firewall or some proprietary CAN bus software/hardware would prevent a hack; remote or otherwise.
You just reminded me about bluetooth. I dont know the fuctional limitations of bluetooth, but car radio systems are connected to CAN lines and every other module.
If they don't identify the driver, how do we know this even happened? Are many 75 year olds even on anyone's hit list? Hard to find enough details in any news article lately to ever really know what is happening in the world.
Very true, I was kinda hoping someone might know this a bit more and cpuld provide relevent info like that.
My post was more of "Hey this happened, it doesnt seem right" and "just incase you didnt know, they totally could hack your car to kill you and heres how we got there"
I believe anything is possible in the clown world we are currently living in.
My sales partner is 75. Last year he bought himself a Porsche 911 Carrera as his lifetime achievement award to himself. He definitely DOES drive his car over 100 mph when on stretches of the interstate. Not all 75 yr old men fit your hypothesis.
I did say 75 year old men dont often drive over 100. If i was a betting man, I'd bet Jay Leno will when he turns 75.
Would your sales partner also do a hit and run?
These two things are what stood out to me, im sure there are senior that enjoy driving. I also think they wouldnt be foolish enough to try a hit and run.
Haha. No, I doubt he'd do a hit and run, however I suppose it would depend on the situation. He's been known to keep company with a married woman or 3 and if it had something to do with one of their husbands, I wouldn't out it past him!
