I think there is some meat to the Ford theory. The VP steps down, the President picks a new VP, then the President steps down. Then the newly picked but unelected VP becomes President. Unless theres something to stop this , its a pretty sneaky loophole (i'm aware the new VP pick has to be voted on see below*)
I think they want a do over. They got in , got what they wanted , but it cost them politically. biden and harris are sinking the democrat party with their low approval ratings. So now they need a new figurehead.
The mechanics would be interesting especially in the Senate. If haris were to step down there would no longer be a tie breaker in the 50/50 senate. *: According to the 25th amendment, the new VP pick would have to be confirmed by a majority in both houses of congress.
