Precisely. Most people aren't awake because their brains are balls deep in pro sports/gambling, garbage TV series, Kardashian reality shows, porn, or just general consooooooming!
Take it from me, I've been one of those sports fans my entire life, up until this whole fiasco. Now I'll catch a big game if I have a few hours to relax, but I don't let my life revolve around the success of "my teams" anymore. I'd rather spend quality time with family or hit the weights.
Sports were ruined for me after watching a video showing how most professional sports are rigged for the sports-betting crowd. You don't even need everyone on a team to be aware of it, either, just the key players. Ever wonder why a quarterback is hot and then suddenly can't do anything right. Yep, sports betting. All the pieces suddenly fell into place. I totally lost interest once I saw it wasn't really a competition anymore. Like everything in the DS world, it's all about money...and how they can get yours.
I'd love to see that video if you have a link. There's a fantastic podcast if you're interested about Tim Donaghy and the whole scandal back in the early-mid 2000's. Called "The Whistleblower Podcast". Really dives into how the NBA/officials of the league threw Tim under the bus as a patsy, bc he was guilty of betting/manipulating games as a ref, but seemed like everyone was in on it, including the commissioner.
For me, just the fans not in the seats ruined the games for me. The NBA bubble in the summer of 2020 was ridiculously stupid. I like the English pro league for soccer and it felt like I was watching a training scrimmage with just zero noise in the stadiums.
It was a blessing in disguise, though, that now I dedicate my time to more meaningful hobbies/self improvement.
Got a link? It sounds interesting
I don't seem to have saved this particular link. It was an older documentary and the quality of the video wasn't as good as today's standards. I did find this, but I'm not sure if this is the one I was thinking of, or not. I saw it quite awhile ago.

If you just do a search on rigged sports and sports gambling, you can find a ton of articles and videos.
