I gave my kid the same advice, it worked.

Very good parenting. When my son was in middle school he wore glasses, played the Saxophone, and was very good with computers. Three kids were picking on him (as a group) for half the school year, and we gave him similar advice. One day I was picking him up after school, sitting across the street. Saw the three kids come after him and start hitting him. He threw his backpack and Saxophone down and proceeded to beat the snot out of the trio. Two male teachers came running out to break it up and took the kids back into the building. I waited a few minutes before going in to retrieve my son, and went to the Principal's office. Told him I saw the whole thing (later confirmed by a teacher witness). He got suspended for a day, which I didn't mind because the other kids were suspended for three days. No one ever picked on him again .He is now a happy, successful adult.
