28-year-old Kodie Edler was young and healthy. He intended to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but was busy and hadn't gotten around to it. He wasn't high risk, so he wasn't worried.

Kodie tested positive for COVID-19 on July 10. By August 3, he'd been placed on ECMO - extreme life support. The last words to his mother at the hospital were, "Sorry Mom, I wish I would [have] had the shot."

On August 24th, #OSUWexMed doctors decided his only option for survival would be a new set of lungs.

After 86 days in the hospital and a double lung transplant, he was discharged to outpatient rehabilitation on September 2.

“Now, I can live and learn from my own mistake and hopefully be smarter man for it," he says. "And hopefully breed a whole bunch of wise people for it.”
