I have found the exact opposite works
My brother got very sick with Covid, very bad pneumonia.
We kept adding steam, but it made it worse.
I went out and bought a $200 DE-humidifier.
He's sleeping so much better now.
The humidity isn't he problem, it's the pressure.
More moisture in the air means dense air which means more pressure.
The pressure outside his lungs needs to be lower than inside, so it sucks the goop out instead of putting force on his lungs.
He still needs moisture, but the room itself needs to be negative pressure.
Water vapor in the air makes it less dense. Not more.
That's a very different situation. Adding steam is not the same than keeping humidity within proper levels. I don't know what the actual humidity level was, it's possible that the air was too humid. For places using central heating during winter, typically indoor air humidity is below 30%, which starts to make us vulnerable to viruses.
