The 3-page preface to your NIV was written by commies, just saying.
The language in the KJV is more direct and has the benefit of more poetic language.
Romans 10:17-18 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
Romans 10:17-18 (NIV)
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:
“Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”[a]
Is "Yes, verily" really harder to understand than "Of course they did?"
Granted, these are subjective things and not a big deal.
But what about doctrinal issues because of words being removed?
Matthew 9:13 (KJV)
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Matthew 9:13 (NIV)
13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
That part about repentance is important and was removed from the NIV. It was also removed from Mark 2:17.
Mark 2:17 (KJV)
17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Mark 2:17 (NIV)
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Or entire verses being removed?
Acts 8:36-38 (KJV)
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
The NIV removes Acts 8:37 completely, but did add a footnote to later versions.
Acts 8:36-38
**36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [37] [c] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. **
c. Acts 8:37 Some manuscripts include here Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” The eunuch answered, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
Matthew 23:14 was also removed from the NIV. There's a footnote but it doesn't provide an explanation of what was removed. It just says-
b. Matthew 23:14 Some manuscripts include here words similar to Mark 12:40 and Luke 20:47.
Matthew 23:13-15 (NIV)
13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. [14] [b]
15 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are.
Now let's see what they removed.
Matthew 23:13-15 (KJV)
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Can't have that part about stealing from the widows while saying long prayers as a pretense (i.e. pretending to be devout in public), now can we?
There are many more verses removed, but I hope you'll at least consider researching exactly what's been removed. The only substantial difference between the Jehovah's Witness Bible and the NIV is that the NIV includes footnotes.
But I'll be honest. I'd rather somebody reads the NIV than let their KJV collect dust on their shelf and pray the Holy Spirit reveals all truth to the NIV readers that the enemy removed from the text.
So what version of the Bible was the correct one before the KJV?
The texts it was translated from, the Masoretic Hebrew Old Testament and the Textus Receptus written in Koine Greek.
Again, there are some translation errors in the KJV, notably the use of the word unicorn to represent an extinct animal of some kind. Nobody is sure of the true meaning of the word, but modern translators have agreed to translate it as wild ox.
Numbers 23:22 (KJV)
God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.
Numbers 23:22 (NIV)
God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox.
None of these errors affect anything of a doctrinal nature, while removing verses about the importance of repentance do.
The Vatican has fragments of the Alexandrian bibles, which were written in classical Greek, not Koine Greek, and carefully edited to remove evidence of Christ's divine nature. Codex Sinaiticus, another Alexandrian text, was found in a wastepaper basket in a Catholic convent on Mount Sinai by Tischendorf.
You can actually see how Codex Sinaiticus was edited in many places by viewing it on the official website- https://codexsinaiticus.org/en/
I know Wikipedia is a questionable source, but all of the above information can be verified there, including the fact the manuscript was edited in numerous places.

Thankfully, it is due to persecution of the true believers that the real Bible was preserved throughout the Dark Ages, because the Orthodox Christians fled as far away as Russia to escape from both the Roman Catholic inquisition as well as Muslim invaders of Constantinople.
There was also the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls in 1947 which verifies the Masoretic Hebrew and Textus Receptus (Koine Greek) are authentic. The Book of Enoch was also rediscovered at that time.
All of the Greek texts among the Dead Sea Scrolls are written in koine, the common dialect of the post-classical Hellenistic and Roman worlds and the New Testament language. A total of 27 Greek manuscripts have been identified from the Qumran caves.
