Mount Vernon was one of the the coolest restored homes I have ever seen. The Mount Vernon Ladies Association was really pretty interesting too. His heirs didn't have the money to maintain the place and had sold off a lot of his personal affects, even his copy of the Constitution. The Mount Vernon Ladies association made sure that the place didn't get trashed during the Civil War, and raised money to buy back most of the artifacts, furniture, his copy of the Constitution, etc. I would go again in a heartbeat.
I love it there. I was most taken by his Presidential Chair, lol. It's so small and humble.
So true! Just walking into what was the "waiting room" and thinking of all the people that were standing there waiting for the Big Man. I have always thought it would be amazing to live during such a historic time. I think we are in one now though for sure. It is something to behold sometimes. I am glad I went to at least one Trump Rally.
Never been to Monticello but I can't imagine it's MORE impressive than Mount Vernon.
I just want to do those same walks as you! Alas - not going to happen anytime soon.
