Yes, it is more convenient to use tape, as tape isn't as easily removed and is much easier to clean. Paper also sheds particulates like crazy, and when you're dealing with delicate equipment designed to detect volumes of nanoliters, paper is the last thing you're supposed to have in a safety hood.
