Worshipping at a shrine of science and wilfully accepting this type of thing (especially if people will be prevented from buying and selling with it), might be no different than worshipping a stone or wooden carved idol.

The wicked will not tell people it's for worship, but the wicked may speak among themselves it is for such.

While it could be a precursor/decoy, it's sensible to say no to such a thing.
