Got it from PipingRock. Is this the typical odor with this stuff or might I have gotten some inferior low quality Chinese crap?

If it has a horrible pungent smell, that means you got fresh product. That is a good sign.

I buy mine in a gel capsule so I can't taste it, but I sure can smell it when I unscrew the bottle to pour out the capsules.

Previously, I bought the NAC in a loose, fine powder in a little tub that you'd spoon out to be mixed with juice. It tasted so bitter, but it surprisingly had no smell. Now, I realize no smell = past its prime.
