Some thoughts on the subject:

Who do we know that? Comes dressed in Red, knows who's been naughty or nice, has abundant helpers who prepare appropriate rewards, and accomplishes his task without notice, even though watched for.

The Jewish holidays were prophesies of what was to come. Their festivals were practices for the day when it would really come to pass.
