The originals were great, even though they don't really hold up (you can tell where harnesses are used when not dazzled by top of the line effects).
The problem is that the trilogy is a total story that would fit the definition of a tragedy.

They COULD make a prequel (like the animatrix film that explained how the matrix came to be) OR they could make a film relating to how human and machine coexist.
What it looks like they are doing is a complete retcon where they just remake the story using most of the same people, when a new loop in the timeline would either be the same faces or all new.
Bottom line, I really don't see how this will be a good movie with a good story.
