34 means the runway is pointed at 340 degrees so nearly due north. They are clearly taking off as the plane has just turned onto the runway from taxiing

I used to fly when I was younger, and it always depended on the wind at our airport. You want to fly into the wind for better takeoff and landing.

Could be either. The tire rubber is only valid based on wind direction for landing. You will landing tire contact on either end, nearly uniformly.
