I'm actually in Asia right now.... it's hard to say what people think because of the collectivism...
I know a guy who proudly posted on Facebook that he's double vaxxed and showed his vaccine card, and thank you to all the medical workers that are saving us all, etc...
Privately he tells me that he knows the vaccines are bullshit and he thinks Biden is an idiot, and that Trump was cheated (he hated Trump previously and directly told me he thinks what I talk about is crazy... though he didn't freak out and continued to be a friend... I have many that completely cut me off for daring to not follow the herd, Asian and otherwise).
So, it seems like the pressure to fit in is so strong that he publicly shows his support for everything covid/vax agenda, but he doesn't seem to really believe that.
But yeah... face shields everywhere... they even fucking say FACE SHIELD on them, in case you didn't know that's what they were I guess. I think that's the dumbest part. Should your mask have the word "MASK" on it too?
I see parents with literal plastic bubbles over their kids' strollers.... how safe is that?!?!
After living here for a long time I have come to the conclusion that Asian culture is the death of the planet. It's the groupthink mentality. We have it in America too, but people at least THINK they're free and value individuality and free thinking to SOME extent, even if a lot of them don't take advantage of such concepts. Asian people though, they EXPECT to follow the herd. They don't need to be convinced of anything, they're already ready to serve at a moment's notice.
Really scary.
As individual people, I believe anyone, Asian or otherwise can do whatever they want. I think with a little more courage the friend I mentioned above could be great, but he's too afraid to openly come out and say what he thinks. You just don't do that here. I do it, and get away with it a lot more than locals because people already think I'm a crazy foreigner. I'm expected to be different.
I was teasing a girl about something once, I don't remember what... maybe I made some sexist comment as a joke... I dunno... women can't drive.. lets say that's what I said. The women in the room got angry, as I hoped (just having some fun, not honestly attacking anyone), so I turned to a couple men and asked if they agreed. I was acting very sarcastic and silly and over the top.. people here have trouble understanding that behavior so I was really playing it up to make it obvious. They VERY seriously said they can't make jokes like that, and only foreigners can do it. I said, why not, look at the ladies, they're laughing now... they get it. They insisted only a foreigner can get away with it.
You think it's hard to wake up Americans? You're right, it is, but try to wake up people over here.... the entire culture needs awakening.
I think there are some good points too, I'm not just trying to attack, but if we let a country like China run the world we are fucked on levels that Western people just do not understand.

That's what centuries of Communism will do to a culture.
