I've heard rumors in the past that Amazon could have never survived as it did on such a shoe string and in the red alot for many years at its beginning without backing by some kind of funding that wanted its existence.

I don't know if anything is real anymore. But if Facebook was an operation to monitor all our social movements, Amazon was meant to track our purchases and business secrets and possible break main street so we are even more government dependent.
