Is DuckDuckGo still a good option?

it's the better option so far, though not perfect...

Research “brave”.
I'm not happy with it. I was forced back to DDG because Brave was locking up on me too many times.
I was working on an “island boys” meme yesterday and the DDG image search returned looking like a menu at Podesta family dinner.
I immediately used qwant and that returned very similar results. Many of the same pictures. Aside from Alex Jones and Telegram, the internet is incredibly broken.
Never was.

Presearch/Brave/Yandex/Qwant.
I'm with you. I have a problem with search engines in general. Was using duckduckgo, then moved to Brave but found out it's a Chrome clone which makes me think it has plenty of back doors to Goog and the CCP. Just too many eyeballs wanting your data and banking on watching your every move. Even VPNs can be compromised. I'd love to have a truly secure browser and VPN that is fully compatible with everything and didn't constantly burp.
Not a close, but someone did a great write up that it is open source browser built on chromium. As a result if you are code savvy, you can see it is not Google based.
It is my opinion that most search engines are compromised to some degree. GOOG of course the worst. I feel like DDG has become worse. Bing used to be an OK alternative, despite it being M$. Now I am using Qwant, but it is not perfect either.
starpage.com
I think you meant startpage.com ? I use that and Brave these days.
