I think the practice seems wholesome and should be an occasion for sending personalized information around or updates on life or insights or wisdom learned through experiences
But in practice it seems to be an occasion where people send nice looking designs and then there's a question of who you'll send cards to and who you won't
I remember there being an initial thought that virtual cards might replace physical Christmas cards but that doesn't seem to have held up too much from what I've seen
Overall what do you think of the tradition of exchanging Christmas cards, is it ok as it is or is there a way to improve the process or is there something else that could be done instead with the same kind of spirit?
I guess I'm in the minority. It makes me happy to send them and to get them, but sadly, I get fewer and send fewer every year. I don't write much, just a friendly greeting to let the person know I'm thinking of them, but I always write something more than just my signature. I sent 25 of them last week, and so far, I've only received one, and from someone I hardly know. Oh, well. I'll keep doing it because I like the tradition. The world gets uglier by the day. A Christmas card can be a thing of beauty, nostalgia, and good will.
I like them! :o)
I'm not buying anything but pantry staples to bake off care packages.
Sending actual Christmas cards is much like actually calling or talking to someone in person. Social media/email/texting has killed intimacy in relationships. I think it was planned that way. Just another way to divide people.
I do not care what color t-shirt your 7 year old great niece won in the sack race at summer camp, how the cancer treatments are going for your house cat, or that you and the Carlsons from Minnesota who happen to have exactly the same model of Winnebago as you used to have but not the exact same one and who you met in Sedona 3 years ago when your sump pump was being replaced, where not in Sedona at the same time this year, but probably will be next year.
I don't think that today's Christmas cards are worth fucking opening.
Noel.
