His argument is interesting but I think has a fundamental flaw.
His argument is that obviously the ability simulate reality with computers is advancing so fast that any technological race would eventually be running millions of simulated solar systems or universes just to play around. Because you can.
And if there is only one reality, and billions and billions of fake realities, the chances of us living in a real one is basically zero.
So did you catch the assumption there?
If there is only one real universe....
So... there are many things that happen randomly in the universe. Radioactive decay is purely random for example. Everything we do may have some randomness when we might do something or something else.
There is another theory that there is a separate universe for every possible thing that could have ever happened. We are stuck in one of them. But for every single thing else at any time that could have gone differently there is another universe. Another real physical universe.
So I'm not going to accept Elon's argument that we are definitely living in a simulation. There is no way to know.
At a basic level I don't really care what the ether of our existence is made of. I love the people I love, and if we are all running in a simulator why would it make a difference to me? Do I care if the basic elements of everything is subatomic particles or simulations of subatomic principles?
I think this is the difference between Elon Musk's outlook and life and my own. I don't think it matters if we are living in a simulation. I think he runs his life differently based on his assumption.

Correct. To put it another way, the only intellectually honest assumption would be "I don't know what we're living in, so I'll treat it as real."
Sounds like something an npc would say.
LOL hello handshake bot.
You are the guy from the matrix 1 that decides to get put back in the matrix lol.
