The fluoride added to municipal water supplies is actually waste from phosphate mining.
The largest phosphate mining operation in the world is near the small town of Aurora, NC. I have been on the property. Ditches up and down the roads are yellow with sulfur. The place smells. I put in a job application there decades ago, but luckily never got called.
Look for Aurora, NC on Google maps in satellite view, and it's easy to spot the huge spoiled area.
For those who don't know, a major use of phosphate is in fertilizer.
I'm in Craven County, right next to Beaufort County. The area has changed a ton in the past 10 years so I'm looking to move out of here, but I've lived here a long time and retirees love this place.
Unless you are attached to the water, you might like moving further inland north of the Raleigh area. It's still rural, but close enough to Raleigh for occasional shopping. I have family in Roxboro and Oxford. You might be able to find some acreage out there.

I live right by Aurora.
Really close inside Beaufort County or in DC?
I have been all over that area back in the past.
I knew someone who lived in Edwards.
