So hear me out. The tests for covid.... are actually just tests for the flu... so I think this shouldn't be surprising lol

Normal flus can cause that too. But regardless if there really is some mystery illness out there, they're still using flu tests to diagnose them. It was on the cdc website themselves saying they never isolated the virus so were just using a flu test to test for covid.
