I once spoke with a US WWII fighter Ace. I said, "What was your secret?"

The Ace said, "I knew Germans were highly methodical. So instead of rushing in for kills I watched them for patterns first. He noticed they always stayed airborne until the very last moment before going in for refueling. I just waited for them to land to refuel, knowing they couldn't come back up to get me, and I took them out on their approach to landing."

This guy had the most amazing stories. So glad we had the chance to chat.
